Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 4 thick slices sourdough bread, cut into 1 inch cubes (approx 4 cups bread cubes)
  • 3 Tbsp butter (I use salted)
  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Place bread cubes on a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Melt butter and add garlic powder and salt. Pour this garlic butter mixture evenly over the bread cubes and use clean hands to gently toss until all cubes are evenly coated.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until the croutons are a light golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on the baking sheet before adding to soup or salad.

Notes

  • Sourdough is my favorite bread for croutons because it soaks up the garlic butter so nicely, but any crusty bread will do.
  • You can make these bigger or smaller, just make sure your bread cubes are uniform in size so they cook evenly.
  • Feel free to add dried herbs if you'd like - parsley or Italian seasoning would both be great!
  • Store leftover croutons in an airtight container on the counter for up to a couple days.
  • If you love croutons as much as my family, you may want to go ahead and double the recipe to be sure there are some extras for snacking!
