Honey sweetened microwave baked apples in only 10 minutes. Juicy, sweet, cinnamon scented apples that are perfect for a healthy dessert or breakfast. Eat them as they are, or on top of ice cream, pancakes, and so much more!
As a rule, we save our dessert for the weekends. But every now and then, I’ll make a simple weeknight “dessert” made from healthy, whole foods like these “baked” Apples made in the microwave.
Fast and Easy Baked Apples
Most weeknights, I’m scrambling just to get dinner on the table, so elaborate touches aren’t a realistic option. These though?
Literally 10 minutes, start to finish, and you’ve added a sweet touch that everyone will enjoy!
The key to cooking these “baked” apples so quickly is to use the stove or microwave instead of the oven. I know many have reservations about microwave cooking and I do too, to be honest. I’m working to rely on it less, but I do appreciate that it gets the job done quickly when needed.
If you prefer stove top cooking, it’s just as easy and nearly as fast as the microwave.
To speed the process and keep the apples nice and juicy, it’s essential with either method to cover your cooking pot, use medium-high heat, and stir occasionally (more frequent stirring if cooking on the stove). I’d also recommend using the widest bowl/pot you can so that the apples get as much contact as possible with that delicious, naturally sweet cinnamon syrup.
Healthy Baked Apples
I love old fashioned baked apples and homemade apple pie as much as the next girl. But I know from past experience, if I serve sugary stuff after one weeknight dinner, we start wanting it after every weeknight dinner, and it’s not long before the downward spiral of sugardom has taken over…and I’m not just talking about the kids! Ugh.
But these 10 Minute Baked Apples are about accentuating the natural sweetness of the apples. They’re fresh, delicious, and good for us too!
When I’m really on my game, I plan to make these on a night when I’m serving a less-loved vegetable at dinner. It’s amazing how quickly my kids go from refusing asparagus to happily gobbling it up once they hear there’s dessert for anyone who eats their veggies!
Ways to Use these Baked Apples
These apples can be used in so many ways why not try them on top of oatmeal, pancakes or crepes for brunch or breakfast or add them to ice cream, cakes, yogurt for dessert.
Top Tips for Making Quick Baked Apples
- The honey naturally sweetens the apples and helps create a caramel like glaze that coats the apples. You could also substitute maple syrup. I often use a blend of the two so the flavor of either one doesn’t overpower the recipe.
- The cinnamon really brings out the delicious sweet flavors in the apples and gives them a festive feel, you can add more or less to taste, or add nutmeg and other spices to your liking.
- You can chop the apples into rough pieces or slices (medium thickness). The trick is not to chop them too small because they will cook much faster and soften too quickly.
- You can store the cooled apples in the fridge in an airtight container for 1-2 days and use them to top desserts or breakfasts.
- We also love adding a few raisins or chopped dates before cooking.

This looks amazing!! I love that you have the option of baking or microwaving too. I’ll take the microwave!
I’m not too much of a fresh apple pan but I like them cooked. This one looks yummy and easy to do.
Great recipe! Would recommend to add a very tiny bit of lemon juice or vinegar to avoid browning. I wonder if almonds would also work with this?
Love those ideas, Meki – thanks for sharing!
I may just try this tonite over a bit of yogurt. I love baked apples but usually make them traditionally.
There’s cinnamon apple and butter , nothing can go wrong with these three ingredients. Those baked apples looks is comforting and delicious.
I used to make a dish something like this when my boys were little since they would eat all of it when they might not finish a fresh apple. It was as great as you say, but we didn’t have Opal apples then. I can’t wait to try it with that variety.
